Akiko Ogawa

Akiko Ogawa was birthed in Nagoya, Japan 1982. She started to play the forte-piano at the age of four, and began to compose three a long time later. She’s composed over a hundred pieces since then. In 1993, she and her family moved to Cambridge in the U.K. for a year, where she studied composition with Caroline Bosanquet, and the piano with Phillis Palmer.

 In September 1994, she was awarded a bursary to study at the Purcell School, where she learnt composition with Alison Cox, Melanie Daiken, Brian Elias and Richard Dubugnon. She continued her piano studies privately with Benjamin Kaplan. In September 2000, Akiko went on to study composition at the Royal Academy of Music, studying under Paul Patterson, where she recently graduated with Honours.

Akiko completed her MPhil in Philosophy in Musical Composition in 2005 at St. Edmund’s College, Cambridge under Robin Holloway, where she was chosen to be the president of the music society (St. Edmund’s Music Society). She has currently studying since a PhD in Composition at the University of York under Roger Marsh, and has had a number of her ensemble works performed by the Okeanos ensemble in the UK.
